The 2008 Soccer Season is over

Well today was the last day of the 2008 soccer season. The boys did great! Deaglan’s team….. well that was more herding cats than keeping score. Deg played hard and had fun, that was all that mattered. He was very proud of himself for the 5 goals he scored in the last game, but the score was 3 to 3. (he scored 2 goals in the right goal and 3 in the wrong one)

Chris coached Joey’s team this season and Joe was the assistant coach for the first half of the season. They did a great job! They won most of their games including the last game with a score of 1 to 0. Joey learned a lot about passing the ball, teamwork, and strategy this season. He has a deep love of the game and is sad to see the season end. He is really looking forward to the next season.

At the end of the season everyone gets a trophy for participation and hard work. They all had so much fun.

Ok so I decided to knit all my friends at work something for Christmas. Brilliant idea?!? I should have started knitting in June!! I've knit 2 scarves, whatever they took like 8 hours nothing. I started my first pair of socks on the 3rd of October I'm almost done. It has taken waaaaayy toooo long! I have 3 more pairs to knit before Christmas. And I've been asked to knit 2 pairs of socks for a friend's sick husband. This is going to be nuts! I'm a reader, I can't tell you the last time I picked up a book that wasn't a pattern book. Chirs got me thenewest book in the Eragon series. I lent it to a friend's son because I knew that I didn't have time to read it before Christmas with all this knitting I decided I needed to do. Don't get me wrong, I love each and every one of the people I'm knitting for but man!, I really need to start planning earlier next year!.

30 is the new 21!

So My birthday was the 5th of October, but my party was last weekend. Not only have I decided that 30 is the new 21 but a close friend of mine told me that it's not 30 anymore it's twenty-ten. It was a great night and everyone had fun.

Now onto the family. Joey finally lost his 2 front teeth.

Happy Birthday to Me!

So as many of you may already know, today is my birthday. I am thirty. There I said it. With that said, my boys have been awesome today. They brought me breakfast in bed and let me sleep in until 11. Shortly after breakfast they tried to sneak out (as quietly as a herd of elephants can sneak out of a place) to get my birthday present.

After they left I meandered downstairs, grabbed a can of Pepsi and sat down in front of the computer to check my email. I was there for about 10 minutes when the back door opens and I hear Deaglan. "Gunga," (a very close friend of the family. Joey couldn't say Uncle it came out Gunga) "Gunga, don't let mommy see the cake" in his quietest whisper. Any one who knows Deg, knows that he has 1 switch, off and really loud. To which Ed responds "Thanks, Deg...." "I didn't hear anything!" I shout from the office, so Deg won't think that he's ruined the surprise.












After dinner they "surprised" me with my cake, a Baskin Robbins Oreo icecream cake. It was frozen solid. They were only able to put 3 candles in. Chris was picking on me, telling the boys not to put too many candles in because I might get winded blowing them out in my old age.

So instead of blowing out the three little candles in one breath, I was laughing so hard I had to laugh the last candle out. To cut the cake I had to put the knife in a tall glass of hot water, stab it, and put all my weight into pushing the knife down to cut the cake.

I tossed one of the cookies onto the tray of Ricky's highchair instead of giving him a piece of cake. Well, Ricky doesn't like to have dirty hands so he had to show me how awful it was that his hands were dirty. After his hands were clean he wanted to say cheese for the camera and didn't want to share his photo-op with Deg.

For my birthday they let me sleep in, gave my lots of laughs, and the book Brisinger by Christopher Paolini. I'm really into dragons and sci-fi stuff like that. This is the third book in his Inheritance series. I've read the first two books, Eragon and Eldest and almost couldn't wait to get Brisinger. It came out September 20th, I told Chris I wanted it so i waited for him to get it for me.

In other news Joey lost his third tooth last night. So now he's lisping his "th's". Chris had him say "stupid thistle" and it came out "thoopid thithle". It was hard not to laugh!

He's not broken anymore!

After 4 loooong weeks, Joey finally got his cast removed Wednesday morning! He was soooo happy to have it taken off. He had a hard time wrapping his brain around a saw that could cut the cast but not him.

We got to Hope Children's Hospital at 6:45, got a cup of coffee for the security guard (not only did I used to work with him, but I currently work with his wife), waited for the Dr.'s office to open, and I took some pictures of all the signatures on his cast.

When we got into the examining room the nurse brought in the saw. He just couldn't figure out how it was going to cut the cast but not him. So the nurse turned on the saw and put it on her hand, she told him that the blade goes left to right not all the way around and that was why it wouldn't cut him. I then decided to tell her about the quarter. What quarter you may ask, The quarter (turned out to be a nickel) Joey decided to stick into his cast..... the second day he had it on! He thought the whole cutting off the cast was just sooooo cool. He never took his eyes off the saw.

He didn't really lose any muscle tone in his arm, we could tell that because the nickel never moved....... See?

I didn't keep the nickel, I didn't want to touch it, neither did the nurse.

He can't play in gym until he gets full range of motion back. His arm is still really stiff and he has exercises he's supposed to be doing. The Dr. said it may take up to 3 weeks to be back to normal. Trust me though it's not slowing him down. The cast didn't either! At soccer practice on Tuesday one of the other players tripped Deggy (on purpose), Joey came to Deg's rescue, and shoved the kid to the ground! I was so proud of my big boy! I told him that he shouldn't have pushed the boy but that I was proud of him for looking out for his little brother.

My first family post

Well, since I've decided to use this as a means of keeping family updated, I guess I should start with Joey.

Joey decided to break his arm on August 27th. Yes, that's 3 days before his 7th birthday. He was in gym class, the P.E. teacher was testing the kids agility. He rolled a hula hoop past the children and they were to jump through the moving hoop. Well, he jumped and broke his left radius close to the elbow. When the doctor and nurses asked how he broke it, he tried to explain the situation. They looked to me for an explanation, to which I replied, "they were practicing to be circus seals". So he has been the school celebrity, having the first broken bone of the school year. Deaglan realized that he hadn't signed it and asked me if I would help him write his name on Joe's cast. Then they posed. I couldn't stop laughing!

Deaglan started soccer for the first time. He plays very well for a first timer. He was really good ball control for a 4 year old. (I think it's from practicing with his Bobo.) He took it upon himself to make sure when the ball went out of bounds that no one could kick it back into play until the ref/coach put it back in play. He dropped to the ground and fell onto the ball. I cried I was laughing so hard. The parents around me couldn't stop laughing either. He just kept going. There was no stopping him. His coach called him on it a few times. "Deaglan, you need to stop or you're not gonna be able to run anymore." "Bear, (that's our nickname for him, but I told coach he could use it because he kept pronouncing Deaglan's name wrong) slow down." I told him "Coach, there's no stopping him. He even moves in his sleep."

Padric (aka: Ricky) is doing just fine. We had a small scare back in June. He had a febrile seizure that got us a ride to the hospital in an ambulance, an IV, an overnight stay at the fabulous Hope Children's Hospital and a follow up EEG. He's fine there were no complications and we don't think it will happen again. It was by far the scariest thing that has happened to Chris or myself. I wasn't home when it happened Chris was. He called Ricky's name and Deggy said he was just shaking on the floor. Chris came in and found Ricky seizing on the front room floor and called 9-1-1. I pulled up right before the ambulance and was able to ride with him. He couldn't move. I was so scared. They gave him a nebulizer treatment in the ambulance and that helped bring his pulse ox up (his breathing was labored so there wasn't enough oxygen getting to his blood). They gave him an IV in the ER and that really helped. After about 2 hours of IV fluids he was talking and trying to move. He was absolutely adorable in the tiny hospital gown he had to wear!

Chris is still working for Verizon (if anyone needs a new phone or to renew their contract.... hint, hint) and doing well. I'm still working at the childcare center and that's about it.
