After 4 loooong weeks, Joey finally got his cast removed Wednesday morning! He was soooo happy to have it taken off. He had a hard time wrapping his brain around a saw that could cut the cast but not him.

We got to Hope Children's Hospital at 6:45, got a cup of coffee for the security guard (not only did I used to work with him, but I currently work with his wife), waited for the Dr.'s office to open, and I took some pictures of all the signatures on his cast.
When we got into the examining room the nurse brought in the saw. He just couldn't figure out how it was going to cut the cast but not him.
So the nurse turned on the saw and put it on her hand, she told him that the blade goes left to right not all the way around and that was why it wouldn't cut him. I then decided to tell her about the quarter. What quarter you may ask, The quarter (turned out to be a nickel) Joey decided to stick into his cast..... the second day he had it on! He thought the whole cutting off the cast was just sooooo cool. He never took his eyes off the saw.

He didn't really lose any muscle tone in his arm, we could tell that because the nickel never moved....... See?
I didn't keep the nickel, I didn't want to touch it, neither did the nurse.
He can't play in gym until he gets full range of motion back. His arm is still really stiff and he has exercises he's supposed to be doing. The Dr. said it may take up to 3 weeks to be back to normal. Trust me though it's not slowing him down. The cast didn't either! At soccer practice on Tuesday one of the other players tripped Deggy (on purpose), Joey came to Deg's rescue, and shoved the kid to the ground! I was so proud of my big boy! I told him that he shouldn't have pushed the boy but that I was proud of him for looking out for his little brother.
